Tran secures first WPT title

JC Tran has won his first ever World Poker Tour event after he beat the similarly-monickered JC Alvarado at the World Poker Challenge in Reno, Nevada.
The final clash saw Tran triumph with pocket tens, Alvarado's A6 failing to pick up anything on the board.
Tran's reward for seeing off 475 other competitors was a check for $683,473 as well as a seat at the WPT championship next month.
"Man, it's a great feeling. It feels a lot better than finishing second in LA even though that paid a lot more money. But winning a WPT title was one of my goals coming into poker, and accomplishing that is a big step for me in becoming a force in the poker world," Tran told PokerListings.com
Alvarado was full of praise for his opponent, saying: "I have a tremendous amount of respect for JC. He deserves this."
Tran's career live tournament winnings are now in excess of $4.8 million.
