Roddick reveals poker face tactic

2007-04-02 17:15:23

Tennis star Andy Roddick has revealed that he has begun to put his poker skills to use on court in a bid to improve his game.

Roddick, winner of the US Open in 2003, has not added to his Grand Slam title count since that date, but believes his new calmer approach could help resolve the problem.

Speaking to Tennis Week magazine, Roddick revealed how his off-court pastimes were now helping him during matches.

"I've got more of a poker face out there now. There's been less emotion in my matches these last couple of years," he told the magazine.

However, the article also reveals that Roddick is prepared to concede the title of best poker player on the circuit to fellow American James Blake.

Roddick is an acknowledged fan of the game and has been associated with a range of poker events, including the recent Andy Roddick Celebrity Poker tournament held in Hollywood.
