The National Poker League (NPL) is to team up with a leading charity fundraiser to help support needy children around the world.
NPL and Fundraisers.com are launching the Charity Poker Tour, which will operate at every NPL World Open event in 2007.
The first stop on the tour is Paris, where a VIP charity gala and auction will raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Annie Van Bebber, founder of Fundraisers.com, believes the partnership could be of strategic importance for the future.
Ms Van Bebber said that she had been tracking "the growth of charity poker tournaments and auctions, along with the popularity of poker shows on television".
After a meeting with NPL, she became convinced that "this combination will help to raise awareness for the charities and funds for their causes".
Charity poker may be a major feature in future money-raising by good causes.
Fundraisers.com claims that "charity poker is even bigger than traditional charity golf, billiards or tennis events".
