The World Series of Poker (WSOP) kicks off in just eight weeks' time and the anticipation is already growing.
The 2007 WSOP will feature 55 events &ndash and increase of nine since last season &ndash and last for 37 days.
Harrah's Entertainment, who operate the WSOP, say that this year's tournament will be the most open and accessible one yet.
"The 2007 schedule offers something for everyone," according Jeffrey Pollack, commissioner of the WSOP.
Mr Pollack claimed that WSOP has a "commitment to innovate for the benefit of all players".
This year, Mr Poll said, WSOP has "created more opportunities for both amateurs and professionals to win poker's most coveted prize".
Last year's contest featured 42,000 entrants from 56 countries and generated a total prize pool of over $171 million.
The culmination of WSOP is the eleven day Main Event, which last year featured a $12 million top prize.
Reigning world champion Jamie Gold was last year's winner and he will be hoping to retain his title again in 2007.
