Expectation grows for first South African poker tournament

2007-04-17 15:52:39

Expectation is growing for the first ever South African poker tournament, to be held over five days starting on May 9th.

The tournament will become the first ever internationally recognised tournament in the continent.

With internet qualification tournaments nearing an end this week, only players willing to pay the $3,000 buy-in can now enter the tournament.

The estimated payout is close to $25,000 with prize packages starting at around $7,000.

Hosted by pro-players Robert Williamson III and "Cowboy" Kenna James (56th in the all-time money list), the festival will provide classes and seminars outside of the main competition event.

Robert Williamson III is an expert of the increasingly popular Omaha variant and will guide attendees through a special seminar and informal games designed to show the characteristics of this brand of poker.

The tournament itself will start on Saturday May 12th and continue through Sunday until a champion is crowned.

The tournament will be televised by the All Africa Poker Channel.
