Spain gets World Poker Tour event

The World Poker Tour (WPT) Season Six itinerary is to include a Spanish event for the first time, it has been revealed.

The event will take place in October at the Casino Barcelona within the Spanish city of the same name, and represents the start of a possible collaboration between the WPT and casino owners Grup Peralada.

Televised tournaments and further events in Portugal and South America are thought to be among the options being considered by the two organisations.

The sixth season begins on May 19th at the Mirage in Las Vegas, with the Casino Barcelona representing the 14th casino to be included on the tour schedule.

"[The agreement] will create a new standard for premium, televised poker events in Europe and lay the groundwork for an Iberian tour involving other leading casinos in Spain and Portugal," said Grup Peralada casino division chief executive Oliver Zugel.

This week sees the filming of the 100th episode in WPT history at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
