Poker film to square off against Spider-Man

Poker film Lucky You is set to open in the US this week opposite big box office hope Spider-Man 3, it has been revealed.

The strong competition could hit the gambling tale's chances of success, but the release date of May 4th represents a final date for a film that has been long-delayed.

Directed by LA Confidential helmsman Curtis Hanson and starring Drew Barrymore and Hulk star Eric Bana, the film centres on a gambler attempting to win the World Series of Poker (WSOP) while maintaining relationships with his father and girlfriend at the same time.

Lucky You could become a title that is particularly relevant to some gamblers who win a seat at the WSOP 2007 via the film's series of promotional giveaways.

The film also stars Robert Duvall, Debra Messing and Robert Downey Jr, but no screenings for critics have yet been made ahead of Friday's release.

Lucky You is set to be released in the UK on June 22nd.
