PPA praises 'common sense' bill

2007-05-01 17:02:04

The Poker Players' Alliance (PPA) has praised the new bill promoting online gambling regulation rather than prohibition introduced by congressman Barney Frank last week.

The congressman, chair of House Financial Services, introduced a bill last week aiming to allow US gamblers to bet online, something they have been unable to do since the introduction of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act last year.

PPA chairman, former senator Alfonse D'Amato, said that the new move was in the spirit of common sense.

"Licensing and regulation will allow us to sort out the most responsible sites- those who are good corporate citizens- from those engaged in unscrupulous activities and practices," the senator commented.

"Americans have played poker throughout history. Playing poker on the internet is simply an example of an American tradition evolving into the 21st century," he added.

Last week the LA Times reported that PPA president Michael Bolcerek was aiming to raise membership numbers from the current level of 360,000 up to one million as part of the ongoing drive to exert pressure on the US government.
