Box office disaster for Lucky You

2007-05-08 17:03:02

Poker film Lucky You showed that everyone's luck has to run out sometime this week as it took just $2.5 million during its opening weekend at the box office.

The Curtis Hanson film follows the fortunes of Eric Bana as he attempts to win the World Series of Poker (WSOP) while keeping his relationship with Drew Barrymore alive.

However, despite debuting at number six in the charts, the film faced stiff competition from a number of sources.

With a number of high profile sporting events already scheduled for same dates, the deck appeared to be stacked against the film from the start, especially as it went up against the record-breaking Spider-Man 3, which took over $150 million.

However, there is still hope for the film due to the fact that similar poker efforts such as Rounders also performed poorly at the box office before becoming cult hits once released on DVD.

But for now it seems that gamblers looking for some poker entertainment should stick to their online casino of choice.
