An online gambler playing in his first-ever live tournament has won the Grand Prix de Paris event in France.
Will Ma, an 18-year-old from Canada, won the event at the Aviation Club de France following an impressive comeback which saw the rookie overturn a two to one chip deficit.
Big name players such as Roland de Wolfe and Jeff Lisandro were among the more famous competitors to fall by the wayside in the £5,000 buy-in tournament, which saw Ma take home almost £290,000 in winnings.
Ma was helped in his quest when he managed to turn up AA when lagging behind in the heads-up battle, a factor which ultimately spelt the beginning of the end for his rival Runar Runarsson.
With over 130 players present at the beginning of the event, the online qualifier had to battle hard but eventually triumphed when his hand of J4 was enough to force runner-up Runarsson to call Ma's all-in move, a Jack on the flop effectively ending the contest.
