Seasoned pro Phil Ivey could yet win his first ever major tournament after he ended day four of the Mirage Poker Showdown with the chip lead.
The fast-paced action saw just 18 players remaining at the end of day three, and there was no let up the next morning as Cuong Nguyen went all-in with the ace and queen of diamonds on the very first hand.
However, Nguyen was to be undone by the pocket kings of John D'Agostino, and the tournament lost another big name straight off the bat.
D'Agostino and others soon fell leaving the final ten battling it out for the World Poker Tour (WPT) TV table, which hosts the final six players.
Early pace setters Cory Carroll and Darrel Dicken made it through to that table, and are well positioned behind Ivey. All three have stacks of over $1 million, with Jonathan Little and Richard Kirsch not far behind.
But Amnon Filippi has a lot of work to do after he ended the day on $571,000, a good $800,000 behind Ivey. Nonetheless the New York-based player will be happy with his work so far, having secured a seat at a WPT final table for just the second time.
