Big win at Mirage Poker Showdown for Little

2007-05-24 17:20:16

Jonathan Little has won the World Poker Tour (WPT) Mirage Poker Showdown following a heads up battle with one of the tournament's stars, Cory Carroll.

Carroll had been making a name for himself over the first four days of action but was ultimately unable to prevent Little from taking the $1 million first prize along with a $25,000 seat at the WPT Championship.

Play had begun as expected, with the short stacked Amnon Filippi the first to go home, though he would have wanted to last longer than just two hands. But a flush from Carroll was enough to overturn Filippi's flopped straight and the latter was eliminated.

There was a surprise in store next up as overnight leader Phil Ivey was sent to the rail, meaning he has still never won a WPT event.

Once Richard Kirsch and Darrel Dicken had also gone it was left to Carroll and Little to battle it out with their remarkably similar chip stacks.

The final hand looked to be swinging Carroll's way when the players went all in, his Ace Seven out-kicking Little's Ace Two, but the latter secured the win when a two turned up on both the flop and the turn.
