2007-05-31 17:00:00

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) has announced plans to introduce an International Players Advisory Council.

It is hoped that the council will provide advice to the management of the WSOP on how to meet the needs of poker players and ensure a better experience for international players involved in WSOP events.

The eight members of the new council are professional poker players and include former WSOP Main Event champion Joe Hachem, Andrew Black, Ben Roberts, Donnacha O'Dea, Gus Hansen, Isabelle Mercier, Marcel Luske and Willie Tann.

Jeffrey Pollack, commissioner of the WSOP, explained: "More and more players are coming from outside the United States, while at the same time we are expanding our reach with new international events."

He added: "This council will help us better address the unique needs of our global players. Our goal is to have a clear communications process and give everyone new perspectives to consider."

Wendeen Eolis has agreed to serve as the chairwoman of the new council and stressed that the body would aim to act on behalf of players from around the world.
