US playing card body issues PokerPeek explanation

2007-06-07 16:50:28

Several meetings have been hosted by the United States Playing Card Company to explain why the new PokerPeek cards have been put into plat at the World Series of Poker.

The leaders of the convention attempted to give an explanation as to why the cards, which have now been withdrawn from the tournament, were redesigned.

Players were given an opportunity to comment on the new design but unfortunately many declined to attend the meeting &ndash even the ones who were most upset by changes, reports pokerlistings.com.

Company president Jason Lockwood said that one of the reasons the cards were replaced was because the old ones were wearing out.

Replacing the cards cut down the possibility that they could be marked by underhand players, he said.

"In retrospect, debuting the cards at the World Series of Poker may not have been the best way," Mr Lockwood said.

"The intentions were pure. The intention was to make the peek more private and the flop more readable across the table."

Players' complaints derived mainly from the fact that the sixes and nines looked too similar.
