The $10,000 No-Limit Texas Hold'em Championship at the 38th World Series of Poker (WSOP) reached a nail-biting climax last night as California native Jerry Yang took home the top prize.
Known to many as the main event, the game had a prize pool of around $60 million, with 621 players eventually taking home some cash.
However, Mr Yang - whose day job is as a psychologist and social worker - is sure to be laughing all the way to the bank after pocketing the top prize of $8.25 million.
"The feeling is just unbelievable," he exclaimed, after winning by an inside straight on the final hand's last card. "Words can't explain it."
He also said he was planning to donate ten per cent of his jackpot to three separate charities.
The WSOP concluded with the main event, following Mr Yang's victory lap in which he hugged the dealer, Laurie.
