A champion tennis player, fresh from victory at a respected regional tournament, has likened playing a tennis match to poker.
Josh Prager, who just won Big Al's Open, one of the largest and most exciting tournaments in the Pacific north-west region, said that one needs similar self-reliance and mental fortitude in tennis as in poker.
And Prager needed just that when he came up against Chad Wilson, formerly of the University of Oregon. He ended up thrashing Wilson 2-6, 6-0, 6-0.
After destroying Wilson, Prager told the Mail Tribune: "Tennis is good training for poker because you're out there by yourself, you have to deal with your emotions; when things go poorly, you have to try the next shot.
"Same in poker. If you lose all your chips on one hand, the next hand you still have to play good."
As skilled in poker as he is in Tennis, Prager took fifth place in the Poker Stars EPT Grand Final at Monte Carlo, walking away with $522,220 (£254,226).
