A Harvard Law School professor has said that poker can be used to teach life skills at schools and war games at military colleges.
Professor Charles Nesson will organise so-called poker strategic thinking societies at universities and secondary schools around the world.
The formation of the Global Poker Strategic Thinking Society will be formally announced on August 19th at an international conference.
"Poker is one of the best metaphors for teaching life skills across a variety of disciplines," said the professor.
The academic believes that poker can be used to teach strategic thinking, risk assessment, money management and geo-political analysis.
According to Harvard's campus newspaper, Professor Nesson wrote a program on his home computer in the early 1980s that could play five card stud.
