A charity poker event in London was marred when a British TV 'personality' and racing pundit refused to pay for the £500 ($1,000) buy-in.

John McCririck had been invited to the Empire casino at Leicester Square on Wednesday night to participate in a tournament intended to raise money for an anti-genocide charity, called Ante Up for Africa.

According to reports, McCririck was under the illusion that the sponsor would pay for his buy-in and he stormed out when he realized he would have to come up with the money himself.

McCririck is famed for his trademark tweed jacket, deerstalker hat, and large sideburns, while his chauvinist views on women have made him unpopular among liberal circles in Britain.

Ante Up for Africa is a poker organization that invites celebrities to raise money for the victims of genocide in Darfur, Sudan.

Big names that have taken part include George Clooney, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
