Players question WSoP Europe bracelet status

2007-09-12 15:57:52

A discussion in the poker community is underway as to whether bracelets won in the World Series of Poker (WSoP) Europe have the same symbolic resonance as those won in the main Las Vegas event.

According to Part Time Poker News, there is "a growing contingent" of players who believe that WSoP Europe bracelets should have a lower stature, like a WSoP circuit event title.

Harrah's, which launched the event, wants the bracelets won in Europe to count towards the overall race to have the most WSoP bracelets, one of the major indicators of a professional player's standing.

But as one contributor to the news site noted, WSoP Europe is an entirely different event.

"The WSoP is over for the year. These are bracelets for something else. Call 'em WSoP-E bracelets if you want, but it's a different [...] tournament."

The first player to be awarded a WSoP bracelet in the inaugural European event was Thomas 'Buzzer' Bihl from Germany, after winning the £2,500 (£5,075) Horse tournament.
