2007-09-17 14:33:09

An 18-year-old girl from Norway has won a first prize worth $2 million at the World Series of Poker (WSoP) Europe in London.

Annette Obrestad, who also won a $500,000 tournament in August, is the youngest winner in WSoP history but she is still too young play in the US, where the minimum gambling age is 21.

She won the five-day £10,000 ($20,000) buy-in no-limit Hold'em event in Leicester Square, beating 22-year-old Brit John Tabatabai's two pairs with three sevens.

"I never expected to win. I'm speechless. I really don't know what to say," she commented.

The 18-year-old, who started playing poker when she was 15, has already signed a sponsorship deal with Betfair.com.

Ms Obrestad is a big name in the internet poker world but pundits expect her to play an increasingly prominent role in real-world gambling tournaments.
