More than 140,000 poker players are playing Texas Hold'em on social networking site Facebook every day, it has been claimed.
In one application that was designed in someone's kitchen, players signing up for the first time are rewarded with 200 free virtual chips and for every friend they invite, they receive a further 500 chips.
There are now over 500 poker events listed on Facebook, while Gamblers Anonymous also has a presence on the website, reports casinowire.com.
''Facebook is God's gift to developers,'' said Lee Lorenzen, founder of Altura Ventures.
He told the Salt Lake Tribune that "never has the path from a good idea to millions of users been shorter".
In related news, the Association of Players, Casinos and Webmasters have created a You Tube video that criticises the government's approach to internet gambling.
