Anyone can be a poker champion, says Hellmuth

2007-09-19 14:53:56

Described by many as the greatest poker player in the world, Phil Hellmuth has said that almost anyone could be the next world champion.

The boom in the game's popularity means that poker dens around the globe are full of possible champions, who are just waiting to walk out of the shadows into the limelight, he said.

In an interview with the AFP news agency in London, the 11-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner said that nearly everybody is in with a chance of winning.

"Maybe there's 100 people who are better than me. But they haven't found the game yet. The fame and fortune is all there for anyone to grab," he added.

But he warned that he could easily beat most up-and-coming poker players because of his years of experience.

Last week, Hellmuth toured London in a double-decker bus, accompanied by 12 models, all of whom were dressed in police uniform.
