Favorable signs for Italian poker fans

2007-09-20 15:11:09

The Italian government looks set to announce whether it believes poker is a game of luck or skill.

While gambling has not had an easy ride in Italy, there are signs that things could be changing, according to website LaunchPoker.

If the government decides that poker is game of skill, then chances are that online poker could be legalized.

"The question often is important to the online poker industry, due to many laws that ban gambling but would allow a game of skill," said the poker website.

"But recent developments suggest that a trend toward legalizing and regulating online gambling is occurring."

If the Italian government is forthcoming then experts believe that first Italian gaming websites will be live by the end of this year.

Interactive Gaming News recently reported that Italy's economy minister Signor Padoa-Schioppa will sign off a law next week that will permit online gambling.
