Men must not be allowed to take part in women-only poker games, one poker expert has said.
Cheri Dokken, California State Championships tournament director, made her comments after several men insisted they be allowed to play in the ladies event on September 15th.
Due to anti-discrimination laws, the men could not be refused, but Ms Dokken believes that something needs to be done to allow female players to play without fear of intimidation.
"What saddens me the most is how any woman knocked out of the tournament must feel being eliminated by a man that was not supposed to play," she told Poker News.
"We have all taken such long strides in bringing more women into the casinos where they feel comfortable playing and I hate to think that even one avenue may be closed to us."
Last month, the Ladies International Poker Series and Card Player Media teamed up to bring more expansive media coverage of female poker players.
