2007-10-01 15:00:16

A 47-year-old father of three from Beirut was declared the winner of the European Poker Tour (EPT) main event in London.

Joseph Mouawad won £611,500 ($1,247,000) and beat almost 400 players in the No Limit Hold'em event, which had a prize pool of just over £2 million.

Mr Mouawad, whose day job is in property development, has been playing poker for 15 years and is the first Lebanese player to win an EPT event.

"I didn't expect to win at all," said Mr Mouawad. "It was fun, and a big achievement and I went up against some great players."

Florian Langmann and Marcel Baran took second and third place respectively at the No Limit Hold'em main event.

The EPT will continue in Austria at the Casino Baden on October 7th.
