WPT World Poker Finals gets underway

The 2007 World Poker Tour (WPT) World Poker Finals got underway yesterday at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut.

Buy-in for the seven day event is $9,700 with an entry fee of $300.

Among the players taking part are three-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner Chau Giang, Vannessa Rousso, Tom Schneider, Steve Zolotow, two-time WSOP bracelet winner Barry Greenstein, his ex-girlfriend Mimi Tran and his stepson Joe Sebok.

The prize pool is currently at a massive $17,673,681 and is set to rise before the tournament is over, according to Card Player.

Competing for the money are 237 poker players and at the end of day 1a Michael Farris led the chip count with 157,750, more than five times what he started with.

Brent Roberts was in second with 148,325 with Bill Edler in third on 109,450.

Exciting Frenchman Tuan Le was in fifth.
