State-licensed casinos in Louisiana made $196.7 million last month, an increase o $2.3 million on the previous year, it has been revealed.
The small increase comes despite there now being a larger number of casino operations in the state, the Associated Press reported.
Few casinos made big gains and the majority of casinos in the region made less money than they did the previous year due to increased competition.
Pinnacle Entertainment, the near 70-year old company which owns the L'Auberge du Lac Resort in Louisiana, is apparently interested in increasing the level of competition even more, with a proposal to build another riverboat in Lake Charles.
L'Auberge du Lac took $23.4 million last month making it the most prosperous riverboat in the region.
Pinnacle owned the Casino Magic Biloxi Casino & Hotel in Mississippi which was destroyed in 2005 by Hurricane Katrina.
