Wales has a greater proportion of poker players than England and Scotland, new research has revealed.
Approximately 31 per cent of adults play the sport within the principality, a higher figure than that of Scotland (27 per cent) and England (22 per cent), according to Mintel.
The overall proportion of players within Britain is 23 per cent, which equates to about seven million people.
Explaining where the popularity lies, analyst for Mintel Matt King said: "Live games are just as popular as online ones. The social side of the game is an important aspect for many players."
Steve Bellis, who got publicity for his pub poker league after he appeared on Dragon's Den was quoted by Wales on Sunday as saying the industry was "growing like you wouldn't believe".
About 35 per cent of people just play for the fun of the game.
