Baron takes 2007 OPOY

2008-01-03 13:16:36

Isaac Baron has been confirmed as the winner of Card Player's 2007 Online Player of the Year (OPOY) award.

Known as westmenloAA, Baron scored 8,304 points in the race, which put him just 26 ahead of his main rival Matt "ch0ppy" Kay. Both were a long way ahead of third-placed Sorel "Imper1um" Mizzi, who scored 6,676 points.

Baron went ahead with only a week left to go in the year after a tussle with Kay that lasted for the majority of it.

A 360 points win on December 23rd gave him what Card Players acknowledged to be a "tenuous" lead, but he was able to hold on until 2008.

Baron's score was aided by 37 top 20 finishes in qualifying events, as well as 20 final tables and seven wins. Combined, his winnings totaled $1,036,452, helped by a win in January worth more than $250,000.
