Alexander Kostritsyn came away from the Aussie Poker millions A$1.65 million ($1.44 million) richer on Sunday night following his win in the no-limit hold 'em main event.
The 21-year-old Russian, who went into the tournament as a relative unknown, defeated eight-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Erik Seidel in the heads-up after going in with an almost 2-1 chip lead, according to Gambling Blog.
Seidel received A$1 million for finishing second, while third-placed Michael Chrisanthopoulos received A$700,000.
Peter Ling, Nino Marotta, Antonio Casale and Peter Mobbs all made the final table from the field of 780 participants.
After his victory, Kostritsyn told PokerListings.com: "I'm really tired after five days of battle, I just want some rest and then I will be very happy.
"I'm probably going to play in the EPT next. I will probably rest a lot and play my usual cash games in between."
