This year's European Poker Tour (EPT) German Open has been won by Mike McDonald.

The Canadian outlasted 410 other players at the Casino Hohenysburg in Dortmund to take home the grand prize of €933,600 ($1.47 million).

With the win, McDonald becomes the frontrunner in the race to become Card Player's player of the year. It is by far the biggest tournament he has ever won.

Approximately 40 players finished in the money, with second-placed Andreas Gulunay winning $728,180, according to Card Player.

Torsten Haase finished third on $454,360, followed by Diego Perez and Claudio Rinaldi.

The overall prize pool was €3,164,700, making EPT Dortmund the biggest tour event to be held in Europe since EPT London in September.

Casino Copenhagen will host the next tournament, the EPT Scandinavian Open, from February 19th to 23rd. Events in Warsaw and San Remo, Italy will follow, with the tour eventually concluding in Monte Carlo for the Grand Final.
