Online poker "not a passing fad"

2008-02-13 12:21:22

Online poker showed during 2007 that it is likely to be a fixture of many people's internet activities for many years to come, an expert has said.

Marc W, the editor of Online Poker Insider (OPI), said that despite a number of controversies and setbacks for the internet card-playing market, it continues to stay strong.

"Online poker players are not going to disappear and last year proved that this is a sustainable industry and not a passing fad," he remarked.

The writer's comments came as OPI announced the winners of its 2007 awards, which concentrate on the good and the bad of the internet poker scene.

Absolute Poker won the prize for worst poker room of the year, after a cheating scandal that heavily damaged its reputation.

OPI has given extremely favorable reviews of InterPoker in the past, giving particular praise to the website's bonus systems, number of tournament players and growing popularity.
