Nguyen taking LA Poker Classic by storm

2008-02-15 12:30:48

There are still more than two weeks to go at Commerce Casino's LA Poker Classic, but that has not stopped Men Nguyen from acting like a man in a hurry.

Out of the first 20 preliminary tournaments, the six-time World Series of Poker player has won three, an almost unheard-of feat.

His latest victory came in a $2,500 buy-in limit hold'em tournament, for which he pocketed $43,000, according to Card Player.

Nguyen also won events ten and 14, taking his LA winnings so far to $140,000.

The Master has come first in Card Player's play of the year (POY) rankings four times in the past and these three titles have put him in the early running in this year's race.

He is in second place on 2,432 points - 488 behind leader Michael McDonald. Should he win next week's main event, Nguyen would probably become favorite for a fifth POY trophy.
