The LA Poker Classic championship event at the Commerce Casino started on Saturday (February 23rd) with a No Limit Hold'em event featuring around 665 players.
Each put up the $10,000 buy-in needed to create a prize pool of $6,384,000 and the seven tables that make it to the end of the LA Poker contest will take away at least double their buy-in.
The first-place finisher is destined to walk away with almost $1,600,000 and will be the 85th poker-made millionaire of the World Poker Tour.
A number of former champions, including Michael Mizrachi (2005), Alan Goehring (2006) and Eric Hershler (2007), survived the first day, reports CardPlayer.com.
A few Hollywood stars, including Rick Solomon, were seen at the first-day event but most of the rich and famous are wait until the WPT Invitational on March 1st to show their faces.
This was Commerce Casino's premiere No Limit Hold'em championship event.
