Ivey leads in Los Angeles

2008-02-27 11:38:17

Poker superstar Phil Ivey is now top of the leaderboard at LA Poker Classic's main event following day four.

Chasing his first ever World Poker Tour title, the holder of five World Series of Poker bracelets holds a narrow lead over second-placed Blair Hinkle, according to Card Player.

Ivey has 1.543 million chips, just 2,000 ahead of his closest rival on 1.541 million. Poker hall-of-famer Phil Hellmuth is third with 1.399 million.

Kyle Burnside had led after day three, with Ivey in second place, but some good play sent the New Jersey native to the top of the tree.

There are now only 18 players left in the competition and further 12 will be eliminated to make a final table of six.

Jennifer Tilly and Nam Le are both left in the competition, but most eyes will be on Ivey and Hellmuth, who will be looking for a big win prior to next week's National Heads-Up Poker Championship.
