LA Poker Classic won by Phil Ivey

2008-02-29 10:04:01

Phil Ivey won the main event of the LA Poker Classic yesterday to earn his first World Poker Tour (WPT) title.

Sitting at a record eighth final table, Ivey maintained the form which had kept him at the top of the leaderboard throughout the tournament, emerging the victor with relative ease, Card Player reports.

Quinn Do was the last man to challenge Ivey's dominance, but his huge chip disadvantage in the heads-up made it too difficult to overturn the lead.

Ivey won $1,596,100 for first-place, while Quinn took $909,400 for coming second.

Charles Moore was third, followed by Nam Le, Charles Montgomery and Phil Hellmuth.

Ivey adds his WPT trophy to an impressive collection of titles, including five World Series of Poker bracelets. His winnings take his career live tournament total over the $8 million barrier.

He is set to compete at the National Heads-Up Poker Championship this weekend.
