Brandon Cantu has risen to third place in Card Player's player of the year rankings following victory at the World Poker Tour (WPT) Bay 101 Shooting Star Championship last week.
The Las Vegas resident now has 2,564 points, 46 less than Phil Ivey in second place and 356 less than overall leader Michael McDonald.
Cantu has placed at numerous large events this year, including top fifteen finishes at three Wynn Classic tournaments, the LA Poker Classic and Aussie Millions.
Nevertheless, his $1 million WPT win was the largest cash of his career.
Cantu vaulted over Bertrand Grospellier and Men Nguyen in Card Player's list, with neither of those players scoring at all in recent weeks.
David Tran also took home a lot of points from Shooting Star after coming eighth, helping him to reach sixth place in the table in front of Gavin Griffin.
