MA poker rally held

2008-03-25 18:59:10

The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) held a rally last week to protest against a new bill that will result in online poker becoming punishable by jail time or multi-thousand dollar fine.

Poker players from across Massachusetts gathered outside Massachusetts State House to protest against an online poker criminalisation provision that will makes it illegal to play poker on the internet.

The PPA believes that online poker should be a legal alternative to offline casinos, especially as it caters to the disabled and others who are unable to attend a land-based establishment.

PPA director Randy Castonguay told website Poker Player: "In the case of the online poker ban in the governor's casino bill, making criminals out of adults who choose this form of skilled recreation makes no sense.

"We urge members of the committee and the state legislature to recognise the unfairness of this provision and remove it from the bill."

The PPA has said it is committed to empowering its members to relate their views to elected officials at local, federal and national level.
