Writer Lisa Johnson Mandell, the author of How to Snare a Millionaire, has spoken of the poker book that that never was.
A girl's guide to poker book project, which was being written in collaboration with poker host John DeSimio, never reached completion because another author published The Badass Girl's Guide to Poker.
"I was shopping in the Robertson Boulevard boutique Kitson when, to my horror, I caught sight of a neon pink tome titled The Badass Girls Guide to Poker," she wrote on her FilmStew.com blog.
"Author Toby Leah Bochan had all the same ideas we did, and after I reported this discovery to our editor, he called "bust" but let John and I keep half the advance."
This was only the latest in a list of problems for the writer, who had originally intended her book to be a humorous home poker guide but was beaten to its when a number of similar books appeared.
There were also long-running editorial problems that rendered the entire process painfully slow.
The good news is that Ms Mandell apparently learned a number of lessons from this period in her life and has gone to sell a new book to her agent for a large sum of money.
Ms Mandell is a member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association and a well-known film reporter.
