Brunson 'better' at cash games

2008-04-03 15:04:05

Doyle Brunson believes his live tournament poker skills are not of the same standard as his cash game's.

The Texas Dolly wrote in his blog that while his usual tactic of "wing it" has brought him a great deal of success in tournaments, he believes his cash game instincts may have made him make a bad call at the Irish Poker Open last month.

Brunson said he will seek out Phil Hellmuth to see if he played the hand correctly because he believes the 11-time WSOP champion to have an unparalleled record of success in no-limit Texas hold'em tournaments.

Hinting at a possible limitation to his tournament game, which has brought him back-to-back WSOP championships, Brunson said: "While I have had a lot of success in the tournaments, I have always considered myself a cash game player and I don't really have any pre-tournament strategy as a lot of people do."

Brunson's implication that he might have made a wrong move may surprise some, following claims last week that he had played some of his best poker in quite a while at the Irish event.
