Jennifer Tilly, who has appeared in memorable TV comedies like Cheers and Frasier, has said that both her poker skills and faults can be traced to her talents as an actress.
She told the Orlando Sentinel that actors and actresses are trained to "let at least some of what you're thinking flicker across your face. In poker, you can't let a wince of pain sneak out when you see the flop".
Tilly admitted that she did not realise how much she was giving away until she saw herself on television.
"Now, I keep my head still. I wear glasses. And I read people. Actors are good at that," she added.
Tilly, whose films include the Bullets Over Broadway and The Caretaker, also enjoys the "democratic nature of poker" where anyone with the money can buy in and sit down at a table with poker legends like Phil Ivey.
In 2005, she won the Ladies-Only No Limit Texas hold'em event at the World Series of Poker (WSOP), becoming the first celebrity to win a non-celebrity WSOP tournament.
