Erik Seidel is the new leader in Card Player's player of the year (POY) race following his win at the World Poker Tour (WPT) Foxwoods Poker Classic yesterday.
The victory boosted him up from 22nd place to first, with a lead of 780 over Michael McDonald.
Seidel's 3,700 points total is more than half the overall amount achieved by last year's champion David Pham and there is still almost three quarters of the year left to go.
The American has earned $1,872,890 in 2008, the second highest amount of any player, with the vast majority of that sum coming from his Foxwoods win and a second-place finish at the Aussie Millions.
Neil Channing, who currently lies 16th, could be the next man to make a move up the rankings, with bookies making him the favourite to win the PartyPoker World Open.
However, it is highly possible that the next big challenger will arise from the upcoming WPT Championship event at the Bellagio, where thousands of points will be bestowed upon the winner.
