Erik Seidel's time at the top of Card Player's player of the year (POY) list could be about to come to an end.
The American, who has been on top of the rankings since his victory at the World Poker Tour (WPT) Foxwoods Poker Classic last week, is not in contention at the ongoing European Poker Tour Grand Final and it is possible that the winner of that event could topple his lead.
Should Seidel survive the next few days, however, he faces perhaps an even bigger challenge later in the week, when the WPT Championship event will ensure a huge points total for the victor.
Nevertheless, Seidel does not have to worry about losing too much ground. None of his nearest rivals in the rankings are still in the EPT main event, while his free seat at the WPT will give him the opportunity to hold on to his lead.
He currently has 3,700 points, ahead of Canada's Michael McDonald on 2,920 and Brandon Cantu with 2,772.
