More than $13 million is up for grabs at the World Poker Tour (WPT) Championship, which got underway on Saturday at the Bellagio casino in Las Vegas.
A finish inside the top 100 is enough to ensure a share of the pot, with those finishing lower than 50th receiving $39,570 and the winner takes $3,389,140.
The total is smaller than last year's, where the first place prize was worth approximately $500,000 more.
Only 210 people turned up for the action on day 1a, which was a major talking point for news providers, who feared the overall turnout could end up significantly less than expected.
However, 335 participants registered on day 1b, helping to ensure the competition remains bigger than the European Poker Tour Grand Final in terms of money.
Of the 545 contestants, 421 progressed through to day two, including several challengers for the WPT player of the year crown.
Current race leader Jonathan Little was eliminated on day one, while ten players capable of catching him remain in the tournament.
