David Chiu's victory at the World Poker Tour (WPT) Championship on Saturday night has moved him into strong contention in Card Player's player of the year (POY) competition.

The Chinese professional earned 2,880 points for his first win of the season, which puts him in fourth position in the overall table.

Gus Hansen, who finished second at the WPT event, moved up to joint-12th on 2,400 and third-placed John Roveto is now 15th with 2,240.

Erik Seidel still tops the table, where he has been since his triumph at the Foxwoods Poker Classic at the start of April.

His total of 3,700 points puts him 660 clear of Michael Binger in second and a further 120 ahead of third place Michael McDonald.

In another notable movement in the POY rankings, Tim Vance is now in fifth after finishing runner up at a World Series of Poker Circuit event at Caesars Palace.
