Chiu wins WPT Championship in thriller

David Chiu won season six's World Poker Tour (WPT) Championship at the Bellagio on Saturday night after staging a huge comeback to beat Gus Hansen in the heads-up.
Hansen looked set to complete arguably the most dominant performance in final table history after racing to an 83 per cent chip advantage over Chiu by vanquishing Jeff King, Tommy Le, Cory Caroll and John Roveto on his own in rapid succession.
Chiu was not willing to lay down, however, and played some excellent poker on his way to a remarkable underdog win.
The Chinese pro received $3,389,140 for the victory, as well as two winner's bracelets and a fourth place position in Card Player's player of the year rankings.
Hansen admitted to being surprised at how well Chiu had performed in the heads-up and stated that he was disappointed to have lost after playing a near-perfect game, ThePlayr.com reports.
The Great Dane was the huge favourite going into the match, having won three WPT titles in the past, compared with none for Chiu.
