Brunson placed bet on Chiu win

While most poker experts were expecting Gus Hansen to win his fourth World Poker Tour (WPT) title on Saturday, one notable player correctly bet against the Dane.

Doyle Brunson, who was voted the most influential man in the sport by Bluff magazine, claimed in his blog he put a bet on David Chiu, who eventually won the WPT Championship at the Bellagio after a remarkable comeback.

Chiu holds four World Series of Poker bracelets from his time at the top of the game and has earned several million dollars.

Brunson considers him to be one of the best players around today.

"I made a bet on David when the final table began because I have played some tournaments with David," the Texas Dolly remarked.

"He is one of the premier players in the game and also one of the nicest guys."

Chiu's pedigree is perhaps the reason why Hansen failed to finish him off despite a huge advantage in the heads-up.

According to Barry Greenstein, Hansen is not as strong against good players as he is against weaker ones.
