Unheralded Schuyler Twaddle emerged from the Borgata casino's poker room almost $400,000 richer last night after taking down the $500,000 Guaranteed Deep Stack Poker Tournament.
Twaddle won $395,095 in all from what was the biggest guarantee Atlantic City has ever held, according to Bluff magazine.
A number of top players were at the event, including World Poker Tour (WPT) winner Roy Winston, who wrote in his Card Player blog he was amazed by how many people turned up, with a field of 800 going well-beyond the tournament organiser's expectations.
Winston has a good record at the Borgata, earning his WPT title there last year, although he could not replicate that success this week and was eliminated early.
Pennsylvanian Twaddle came out on top after it was agreed to chop the prize pot when the tournament was whittled down to the last four contestants.
He had the biggest stack when this happened, ahead of Weiwen Lang, Alan Engel and Mark Reynolds.
John Racener, Mihail Stoykove, Eric Siegel, Richard Marshall and Larry Goldstein were the other final table competitors.
