Scandinavians 'following in Hansen's footsteps'

2008-05-08 16:15:56

Scandinavian poker players like to compete in the same aggressive manner as Gus Hansen, it has been suggested.

Ryan Luccesi, a writer for Card Player, implied the three-time World Poker Tour titlist is the most influential poker professional as far as players from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden are concerned.

Despite Barry Greenstein's claims on his website that Hansen is not really an aggressive player, he just uses a very loose strategy, Mr Luccesi put the generally attack-minded play he saw at the European Poker Tour (EPT) Grand Final down to people trying to copy him.

"As you can imagine, having the Great Dane as your poker role model leads to some hyper-aggressive poker strategy," he remarked.

Competitors from Scandinavian countries dominated the field at the EPT finale but none of them managed to win, with Canadian Glen Chorny eventually walking away the victor.

Isaac Baron, who made the final table, later told Card Player magazine that it was one of the weakest fields he had ever participated in and that he plays in much tougher tournaments online.
