Cards fans who are eagerly anticipating the return of the World Poker Tour (WPT) will not have long to wait.
The first event of the new season, the Spanish Championship, gets underway on May 23rd at Casino Barcelona.
For some of the best professionals in the world, the tournament could be viewed as the perfect tune up to the World Series of Poker, which begins three days after the WPT event finishes on May 30th.
Others, however, may see it as a distraction and it is possible that it will not gather the size of field poker followers have grown accustomed to during the Barcelona legs of the European Poker Tour (EPT).
The competition from the WSOP, as well as the Asian Poker Tour could be the reason why the Spanish Championship will not be televised.
Should it be able to muster a prize pot as big as the EPT Barcelona competition, it would be one of the richest tournaments on the WPT calendar.
